ABOUT US

This blog follows Caitlin and Carter as they attempt a 2016 thru hike of the Appalachian Trail, which stretches nearly 2,200 miles from Georgia to Maine.

Having grown up camping and rafting in the Southern Appalachian mountains, hiking the Appalachian Trail has been an aspiration for both of us for many years. The desire to hike it in its entirety has only intensified since we met on the trail near Wayah Bald in 2014 while each solo hiking the first 140+ miles of the trail in Georgia and North Carolina.

Caitlin, "Princess Nightrider," hails from Memphis, TN and brings her love of nature and theology together while backpacking. For her, the wilderness is a perfect space for self-discovery, meditation, and discernment. She likes her coffee dark roasted and her beer sour.

Carter, a Georgia boy, is still determining a trail name. He is a lover of the wilderness, an avid reader of the likes of Ed Abbey, a musician, and loves spreadsheets. He finds clarity through experiences in nature and believes long distance hiking offers a chance to reconnect to a historically human theme long forgotten in the age of planes and automobiles. Oh, he likes beer and coffee too.
